Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 3700 – The Original Nautilus
Patek Philippe and the Nautilus – in this case, the original model, Reference 3700. Considered an enormous case for its time, its rounded, flattened edges were designed to reflect enduring values. I think it is safe to say that the model has certainly proven this concept over time.
Case
The case is exceptionally well preserved. There are some light signs of wear, but it remains completely unpolished. The brushing on the inside of the case is still remarkably crisp, while the outer brushed surfaces are also beautifully preserved.
Dial
The color of a Nautilus dial is certainly one of the most difficult aspects to capture in photographs. Depending on the lighting, the dial ranges from various shades of grey to lighter blue tones. The dial shows light patina, with a small brown spot near the Patek Philippe signature. Blue-toned dials are known to change considerably over time, creating a unique and highly individual aesthetic.
Movement
Inside is the Patek Philippe Caliber 28-255 C, featuring the legendary Gyromax balance, an ultra-thin construction and an 18k gold peripheral rotor weight. The movement is based on the legendary Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 920, which was supplied as an ébauche movement to all three of the so-called Holy Trinity manufacturers. Each manufacturer subsequently finished and decorated the movement according to its own standards and aesthetic.
